AWANA is an international, Bible-centred children's and youth ministry conducted by churches that are registered with AWANA Clubs International. AWANA Clubs operate in more than 100 countries and AWANA materials are available in over 30 languages.
The word 'AWANA' is an acronym for 'Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed', taken from 2Timothy 2:15. which states: 'Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, lightly dividing the word of truth.' KJV

AWANA - TLC program:

The AWANA Clubs at The Lighthouse Church was started in 1993 and runs five Clubs:

  • The Cubbies Club for children studying in KG1 and KG2
  • The Sparks Club for children studying in first, second and third grades
  • The Flames Club for children studying in fourth and fifth grades
  • The Torches Club for children studying in sixth and seventh grades
  • The JV's Club for children studying in eight and ninth grades

We have over 200 children attending our Clubs. Pastor Dave is responsible for the Awana Program. Sarah Athyal is the Program Director. She works with a force of 55 dedicated leaders, faithfully coming in every Friday to serve the children.

The AWANA year runs from September to May, the following year. The Clubs meet every Friday morning from 9:20 am to 11:00 am. The program starts with the Flag Ceremony in the open area beside the Lighthouse. After the Flag Ceremony the Clubbers break up into their respective Clubs for the rest of the program, consisting of three 30-minute segments of Game Time, Handbook Time and Council Time:

Game Time:

The exciting Game Time is what attracts many children to AWANA. The Game Time is led by the Games Director. Each child is assigned to a team. The child learns to cooperate with team members, identifies with a caring adult Leader and practices sportsmanship.

Handbook Time:

Each Clubber has a Handbook specially adapted to their age group on which they work at home during the week. During Handbook Time the Leaders and Clubbers divide into Handbook Groups with a Leader for each group of 5-8 Clubbers. The Leader reviews with the Clubbers the sections in their Handbook that they have memorised or completed during the week and explains Bible verses and Handbook material to them* Clubbers receive Awards as they progress through their Handbook.

Council Time:

The Council Time includes Announcements, Song Time, Bible Message and Awards Presentation. The Council Time is usually led by the Club Director.

Other Activities:

In addition to the regular Friday meeting, AWANA also has special programs and activities conducted during the course of the year. These include the AWANA Stores, AWANA Grand Prix, Picnic, Christmas Program and Talent Day.
